My travel dream

If there’s one thing I wish I did more of, it would definitely be travelling. I have only  visited 3 countries in the world, which I think is pretty shocking considering the masses of airlines; holiday booking websites; travel agents and different destinations to visit in the world. I have dreams of going on a world tour and enjoying the culture, diversity and experiences each country has to offer.

Work, work, work

I often get asked why I don’t travel more and there are a few reasons. If  you know me personally you’ll know I work  during the summer holidays, despite having a 6 weeks summer break due to my career. I usually work throughout the summer as a sessional play worker in a play scheme, this means my entire 6 weeks holiday is based around work, work, work. I absolutely love my summer job and it’s so rewarding, but I do long for the summer holidays where I’m jetting off to a gorgeous place and soaking up the beautiful culture and sun. To be honest there’s also another reason I don’t travel very much and that boils down to the fact of me being scared to travel alone.

Going it alone

I often tell myself it’s time to travel Sade, you need to experience the world. I’ve mentioned my goal of travelling alone to some of my friends and family and they can’t believe I want to do it. Some have even said I’m being unfair by not inviting them along for the trip and it will be too dangerous. I guess they wouldn’t feel happy knowing I’m half way across the world exploring alone. But honestly I think it will be so amazing. A few of my friends have already taken the steps to travelling alone and absolutely love it. They recommend it to me all of the time and I think it’s about time I take the plunge.

Summer getaway

This summer is the summer of doing things differently. I will not be working the entire 6 weeks of my summer break and have already booked a few days away, which I’m really excited about. I won’t be travelling alone on this trip however, but after almost 5 years of not going on holiday I’m ready to hop on a plane, soak up some sun and enjoy my life in a different setting. This trip will not only be about relaxing, but it will be a great opportunity for me to connect with people, expand my knowledge, attend events and enjoy blogging on the beach. I will also have some time to reflect and plan my lone travel itinerary. This is more than just a get away, it’s my opportunity to reignite my travel buzz and get my plans down on paper.

I’m scared but I know I can do this

Ultimately my aim is to travel alone at least once or twice a year to somewhere new. I am a little apprehensive out about travelling alone as I’ve never gone abroad by myself, but it’s something I definitely want to do. I guess I’ve been putting it off due to the fear others have imposed on me. But I refuse to allow there fears to stifle me and stop me from enjoying my life. As I grow on my journey of self discovery I am learning more about my strengths and my resilience; lone travel is definitely something I feel ready to do. I need to take the plunge or I’ll never get to half of the places I dream of. I do not want to live a life filled with regrets, thinking about the what ifs.  I want to live a life full of fabulous experiences. Believe it or not I also want to travel and explore the UK, I live in London and have not visited even half of the places in the UK. This is ridiculous considering most places can be reached by train within a few hours. I’d love to do a tour of the UK, and fully immerse myself in the adventures available.

I am excited to visit different places all over the world, there comes a point in our lives where we desire more and I’m at that point in my life. I need to make it happen and soon. There is no time like the present.

My perfect holiday would consist of…

  • Spa treatments
  • Exploring old towns
  • Visiting museums, art galleries and landmarks
  • Jet skiing
  • Scuba diving
  • Climbing mountains and hiking
  • Eating delicious food
  • Relaxing on the beach
  • Going on safari
  • Boat trips
  • Caving
  • Rock climbing
  • Quad biking in the desert
  • Learning about the history of the country I’m visiting

And so much more. I want to have adventures in so many different places, life is to short to be scared to travel alone right? If I wait for other people to come with me I will be waiting a lifetime. The time is now. I’m really excited to see the world, the world is my oyster and I am calling travelling more into existence.

I would love to hear about your travelling experiences and whether or not you have done any travelling alone.

What destinations have you traveled to?

Where would you recommend I travel to?

Do you have any top tips for travelling alone?

What UK destinations should I visit and why?

I’d love to hear your suggestions. I can’t wait to travel the world and share my experiences with you.

I’ve travelled alone a few times and it’s great. Only on shorter breaks, but you meet so many amazing people. Can recommend so many places to visit but if you want sun and culture/watersports/history then definitely Greece or Italy 🙂 I don’t see travelling alone abroad any different to being in the UK – keep your wits about you as you would in any other city, keep an eye on your belongings in pick pocket ridden cities (Barcelona and Rome were the worst so far) and just enjoy it!

I’d really recommend Ibiza! I’m here at the moment in Santa Eulalia and it’s one of the nicest places I’ve ever visited, it’s so peaceful as I’m not on the party side of the island (that’s more San antonio). The beaches are stunning and there’s so many places to eat. The neighbouring towns have a lot to visit too, Es Canar has a huge market on Wednesdays and the bus is only a few euros!
